5.3. Syllabus
1. Introduction. Sources. Periods. Main conceptual, methodological and historiographical issues.
2. Impact of the Semitic and Greek colonization in the Iberian Peninsula. Hispanic peoples: Tartessians and Iberians (8th-3rd BCE). Indoeuropeans. Vascones.
3. Hispania in the orbit of the Roman Republic (3rd-1st BCE). The process of Romanization. Conquest, economic exploitation and provincial administration. The formation of provincial societies and the transformations of indigenous communities.
4. Roman Hispania (1st-3rd CE). The process of political integration: municipalization and colonization under Caesar and Augustus; the granting of Latin rights by the Flavians. Provincial administration. The Roman city in Hispania.
5. Hispania in Late Antiquity (3rd-5th CE). The crisis of the Principate and the transition to Late Antiquity. The new political and administrative framework. The transformation of the cities. Christianity. The Germans.
